Lesson Plan Title : Adverb Pictionary
Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School Level)
Overview and Purpose : This activity allows students to creatively depict an adverb modifying a verb. Students have to try to guess what the adverb/verb pair is from the student's description.
Objective: The student will be able to illustrate an adverb modifying a verb using pictures.
Resources:
White board
Markers
Adverb/verb pairs written on pieces of paper
Activities:
Divide the class into two teams. Have a student from the first team choose an adverb/verb pair and draw it on the white board. His teammates have one minute to guess what he is drawing. If they guess correctly, his team gets a point. If they cannot figure it out, the other team gets to guess. If they are correct they get the point. Then have a student from the other team come up. Continue until all the students have had a turn.
Closure:
You can do this activity by having students choose the verbs and adverbs separately. This will create some interesting combinations and will have the whole class laughing. For homework, ask students to choose an adverb/verb pair and illustrate it on a piece of paper.
